GD is short for god.
Everyone has fun in their own way. Some like to spam infantry or raiders, but not all maps accommodate all preferred styles of play. The Europe maps have the infantry and raider spamming red (Russia), Italy and Britain are naval powers, so if you aren't good at dominating the sea, then Italy and Britain are a great place to learn. The US/Spain can choose naval or land based. Germany must be able to do it all. So make whatever maps float your boat because there are probably players out there that prefer that style too.
.
If you make a biased map, label it and for what purpose. An excellent reason to have a biased map is if you are a 1900 rating and you like playing with a 1750 rated person.
.
Symmetry rocks, but I get a lot of requests for non symmetric maps. It's not broken. It's intentional. :)
.
Be aware that unit changes can and do and will break map balance. Just because it was balanced doesn't mean it is still balanced.
.
Just as everyone has fun in their own way... some people disagree about what makes a map balanced. If everyone has an equal chance to win, then there is a good chance that it is balanced. This assumes players of equal skill. 2 low level players may think a map is balanced until one of them plays a high level player and learns a secret opening move that has no effective counter then the map really isn't balanced after all.
.
There are a lot of kids that play weewar, be mindful that just because they aren't as good as you doesn't mean they aren't smart and a worthy person and player. We all have fun in our own ways.
.
I have 6 profiles which was required to test the 6 player maps for starting balance in particular all the way up to full activation to see if the balance was maintained and to see where balance went sidewise if at all. Mapmaker (formerly stirling), Stirling (I changed it to pretend to be GD a couple years ago for an evening and never changed it back), stirlingxa, stirlingxb, stirlingxc, stirlingxe. I think... I don't recall seeing stirlingxe in a while.
.
Talos Caversa and Talos Caversa II were requests for a non symmetric fast heavy hitting map that could easily divide the good from the not so good. ie a quick tournament map. Although it is best to play a map over and over again in order to know what to do and what not to do.
